Purple variety description

Oblong leaves with significant lobing at base of petiole and moderately undulating edges. Variation in amount of purple pigmentation on stems and petioles, ranging from extensive to absent. Leaves reach 10-12″ long, 6-8″ wide. Good flavor, slightly bitter. Largest leaves are a little tough.

Annette Alford of Mobile, Alabama donated this variety to Seed Savers Exchange and simply indicated it is an old heirloom variety.
